SUMMARY:Sustainability and Acceptability of Hydropower as Part of the Clean Energy Transition
DESCRIPTION:Held in the frame of the EUSEW 2021 Sustainable Energy Days\, the session will show how pumped and storage hydropower can address environmental and social issues more sustainably and contribute to the cost-effective integration of variable renewables and assurance of the security of supply. \nThe main goal of the Sustainable Energy Day session is to address hydro-generated environmental and social impacts and to underline hydropower’s role in the sustainable energy transition. To achieve common climate goals\, storage hydropower and pumped-storage hydropower shall play an essential role in balancing variable renewable energy sources and to ensure reliability of the electricity supply. \nTo demonstrate that hydro has a place within the SET-Plan\, the session shall involve policy-makers\, the energy sector players and environmental organisations in discussions about successful case studies provided by hydropower as well as with a wider audience working on the transition towards a clean energy society. \nRegister now!\n  \nThe speakers will present the following topics: \nBerit Köhler\, Norwegian Institute for Nature Research\, Norway: Social acceptance of hydropower in the clean energy transition. \nAgnès Barillier\, EDF\, France: Aligning hydropower and environmental issues – some examples of successful practice. \nStaffan Lundstrom\, Lulea University\, Sweden: Mitigation of environmental impact for flexible hydropower. \nNuno Portal\, EDP Produção\, Portugal: Sustainability challenges in hydropower projects: past\, present and future. \n  \n\nAbout Sustainable Energy Days \nSustainable Energy Days are digital activities and events organised by local public and private organisations across Europe to promote clean energy and energy efficiency. They are a key component of the EU Sustainable Energy Week. \nSustainable Energy Days take place throughout Europe\, in cities and local communities during the months of September and October. \nTo find other Sustainable Energy Days visit: https://eusew.eu/look-2021-sustainable-energy-days

SUMMARY:HydroES 2021
DESCRIPTION:HYDROPOWER EUROPE is one of EASE projects building on the ambition to achieve a research and innovation agenda and a strategic industry roadmap for the hydropower sector\, based on the synthesis of technical fora and transparent public debates through a forum that gathers all relevant stakeholders of the hydropower sector. \nFollowing this vision over the past 2 years\, the Hydropower Europe Forum has been created to facilitate communication with all stakeholders within the European hydropower value sector. The Forum now comprises nearly 600 different representatives and has been active in helping to develop the hydropower research and innovation agenda and strategic industry roadmap. \nA special one-day session will now be held – in series with the HydroES 2021 conference in Lyon\, to introduce the conclusions from this extensive programme of consultation and planning by presenting the results of the Research and Innovation Agenda\, as well as the Strategic Industry Roadmap. \nHYDROPOWER EUROPE Forum dissemination event will be held at ENS Lyon on Wednesday 22nd September 2021. Participation can be either online or in person at the event\, and is free regardless of mode of participation. \nThe Hydro-ES 2021 conference website can be found here. \nRegister now!
