Performance and Durability of Rechargeable Industrial Batteries
Energy Storage Europe replies to the European Commission’s public consultation on the draft Delegated Regulation on minimum values for the electrochemical performance and durability of rechargeable industrial batteries. Under the Batteries Regulation, rechargeable industrial batteries above 2 kWh will have to meet these minimum values to be placed on the EU market.
Energy Storage Europe supports harmonised minimum values and welcomes the improvements made since the October 2025 working document, including the clearer definition of residential battery energy storage systems. However, Energy Storage Europe calls on the Commission to define “dedicated safety infrastructure” and temperature-regulated batteries, and to require evidence of a first life so that new batteries cannot be presented as second-life batteries to avoid the minimum values. It also asks for a timeline for the testing standards that manufacturers need to demonstrate compliance.
